Welcome

Benjamin Britten Academy of Music and Mathematics is a community built on a shared love of learning. We work together to enable scholars to develop curiosity in their subject and aspire to deepen their understanding across the breadth of the curriculum. Scholars are taught by subject experts and outstanding classroom practitioners. We are incredibly proud to have achieved the highest outcomes for our scholars at GCSE in the local area.

Both staff and scholars are encouraged and supported to continue their learning beyond the classroom. The extensive range extra-curricular activities provide opportunities to achieve success and gain wider experiences in areas that our scholars are passionate about. This can include learning about volcano’s while visiting the lava flows in Iceland, to joining the outstanding cast of the well renowned musical productions. Every member of our school community is provided with a tailored, bespoke experience which allows them to flourish.

At the heart of an outstanding school is a commitment to exceptional teaching, learning, and curriculum design. Every lesson is underpinned by high expectations, expert subject knowledge, and a deep understanding of how pupils learn best. Teachers plan with precision, ensuring that knowledge is sequenced logically so that pupils build secure understanding over time. Learning is active, challenging, and inclusive, enabling all pupils to achieve ambitious outcomes. Assessment is used intelligently to identify misconceptions and guide next steps, while rich discussion and questioning promote curiosity and independence. The curriculum is broad, balanced, and coherently structured to nurture both academic excellence and personal growth. Through a culture of reflection, collaboration, and innovation, teaching continues to evolve — ensuring that every learner is inspired, supported, and equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world.

At our school, professional learning is supportive, empowering, and driven by individual goals, alongside our whole-school vision. We offer a wide range of bespoke opportunities tailored to each staff member’s interests and aspirations. Our approach values individual growth, inspiring every team member to pursue development that enhances their practice and sense of fulfilment. With a wealth of expertise within our community, you’ll be supported and guided throughout your continued professional learning.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school.
