Safeguarding - Gender Identity Discrimination

Gender identity is a deep-rooted sense of self. Having a sense of identity in this way is really important for our mental health, wellbeing and sense of resilience.

Gender identiy dicrimination is when you are treated differently because of your sexual orientation in one of the situations that are covered by the Equality Act.

The treatment could be a one-off action or as a result of a rule or policy based on sexual orientation. It doesn’t have to be intentional to be unlawful.

The Equality Act 2010 says you must not be discriminated against because:

A persons gender identity can be the same or different than the gender assigned at birth. The responsibility for determining an individual’s gender identity rests with the individual.

Discrimination, bullying, and harassment on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression is not tolerated at Benjamin Britten Music Academy.

If you or someone you know has experienced or is experiencing this at Benjaimnin Britten Academy please contact the year group Designated Safegurding Lead on 01502 582312 or please see the useful links below.
