General Election Hustings

In preparation for the General Election, the prospective parliamentary candidates for the Waveney constituency accepted an invitation from the School Council to attend a hustings. The candidates, Peter Aldous (Conservatives), Sonia Barker (Labour), Jaqueline Howe (Lib Dem), Elfrede Brambley-Crawshaw (Greens) and Allyson Barron (Independent) arrived at the school after lunch and spent period 3 discussing issues that matter to our scholars before the hustings began. (UKIP candidate Bert Poole sent his apologies, but was unable to attend). At 4:30pm, members of the public, staff and scholars gathered in the Theatre to pose questions to candidates on party policy, local issues and manifestos. Head of the School Council, Harry Franklin (year 11), acted as compere for the evening and was the epitome of a professional host. The candidates thanked everyone in attendance for their questions and congratulated scholars for their interest in and knowledge of UK politics.
