On Friday 21 April, Miss Galeski and Miss Stanley accompanied a group of Year 11 students to St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, for a taster day on higher education and an introduction to life as a scholar at Cambridge University.
In the morning, we were very fortunate to receive a lecture on ‘Gods, Devils and Alcohol- their influence in chemical nomenclature’ from Dr Peter Wothers, internationally recognised Chemist, Teaching Fellow and Director of Studies in Chemistry at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.
Following this, scholars had a tour of the grounds and history of St Catharine’s and lunch in the dining hall. The day culminated in a debating activity in which scholars discussed the answers to philosophical questions likely to appear in Oxbridge admissions interviews.
We would like to extend a big thank you to St Catharine’s College for hosting the day and Dr Peter Wothers for the excellent lecture. Well done to our scholars who articulated themselves well during discussions and asked insightful questions; we hope this visit has helped to prepare you for your next steps on the path to becoming Cambridge University undergraduates!
