On Friday 18th November, three members of our School Council spent the day at the Waveney District Council offices for National Youth Takeover Day. The theme of the day was ‘Healthcare Services in Waveney’ and after a talk by representatives from the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, students were divided into teams to embark upon the challenge for the day.
For the challenge, students were faced with 12 ‘breaking news’ events in which they had to manage an allocated budget and distribute funds between different health care providers in the district whilst maintaining public confidence and preventing cuts to services heavily relied upon in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney areas.
After a very tasty lunch, each group presented their ideas to the Health Commissioning Panel made up of representatives from the Clinical Commissioning group, East Coast Community HealthCare, Waveney District Council and MP Peter Aldous.
Our students were teamed up with students from Pakefield High School (Team Benjafield) and delivered a very articulate and convincing presentation. They were a real credit to the school, demonstrating excellent team work and negotiating skills in a fast-changing and challenging situation and were awarded with £50 of vouchers to spend at Sentinel Leisure Trust.
Well done Zara, Jenson and Chloe!
