On Saturday 17th September the school hosted its inaugural Alumni Garden Party. The event was organised by Mrs Overy (Head of Year 8) and Miss Banns (Head of Year 11) with a view to keeping former staff and students of the school informed and updated about the changes which have occurred during the past few years and to affirm to them that, wherever their lives take them, the school will always support its alumni. A marquee set up on the school field provided refreshments and shelter from the sunshine for guests, some of whom had travelled over thirty miles to join us for the afternoon. Guided tours of the school were provided and many memories shared, a display board showing old photographs and newspaper cuttings providing the stimulus for many enjoyable conversations and reminiscences. Over fifty people attended the event, with many coming from the original complement of teachers who helped establish the school in 1979. Building on the success of this event, the school will be holding a formal 40th anniversary celebration in 2018. Our thanks are extended to Mrs Overy, Miss Banns, Mr Flanagan, Miss Armon, Mr Park and Mr Pagan (teaching staff) and Amy Mullen-Brown (Head Girl) for their efforts on the day. A particular mention must also be made for Mr Wood and Mr McCaffrey (site staff) for erecting the marquee in less than favourable climatic conditions!
